City of Donna Increases Police Overtime Funding by $100,000, Investing Over Half a Million Dollars in Public Safety
Donna, TX The City of Donna is reinforcing its commitment to public safety by approving a record $590,000 in total overtime funding for the Donna Police Department for Fiscal Year 2025 2026, an increase of $100,000 compared to prior years.
This total includes $220,000 budgeted directly by the City of Donna and $370,000 in secured state and federal grant funding, making this year’s allocation one of the largest in the city’s history.
During the November 4, 2025, City Council meeting, City Manager Jorge Peña highlighted the city’s continued support for its police officers and clarified recent misconceptions regarding departmental resources.
“Our police department continues to be well-funded and supported,” said Peña. “This administration has made record-level investments to ensure our officers have the resources they need to protect our community. With a total of $590,000, just over half a million dollars dedicated to overtime, we’ve increased funding by $100,000 from previous years. That’s a major step forward for public safety in Donna.”
In the 2023–2024 fiscal year, the city spent approximately $465,000 on police overtime, equivalent to more than 11,800 hours of service. With this increase, the department will now be able to dedicate additional time and manpower to community patrols, emergency response, and proactive law enforcement efforts.
Mayor David Moreno commended city leadership and the council for their commitment to ensuring Donna remains a safe and thriving community.
“Our officers work tirelessly to serve and protect,” said Mayor Moreno. “This additional funding reflects our appreciation for their service and our shared commitment to public safety. We’re proud to continue investing in the people who safeguard our city every day.”
The City of Donna and its Police Department have also worked to secure competitive grants that enhance local resources and reduce the burden on taxpayers. These grants support not only overtime but also training, special enforcement operations, and community policing initiatives.
“Our police leadership deserves credit for going after additional funding,” added Peña. “They’re out there applying for grants, bringing in new resources, and showing real
initiative. That teamwork ensures Donna’s public safety operations are strong,
sustainable, and forward-looking.”
With a combined $590,000 in overtime funding, the City of Donna reaffirms its commitment to public safety, fiscal responsibility, and community trust, ensuring that its police officers remain supported in meeting the needs of a growing city.
